Preston Garner Departs Freedom Quartet, Announces Future Plans

FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 2016

It was with sadness and utmost respect that we accepted Preston's resignation as he poured out his heart concerning God's call on his life. His contribution to the early success of Freedom Quartet will never be forgotten and his absence leaves a void not easily filled. Please pray for Preston as he begins a new phase of ministry - and for John Rulapaugh, Dale Shipley, and Burman Porter as they rely upon The Lord to lead the right man with a set of talents and abilities to compliment and improve upon the foundation that is laid for the future of Freedom Quartet.

Preston Garner's Statement from Facebook -

Well- if y'all will indulge me, this will be a bit of a long post. These pics are from last night at the TBN Harmony Honors concert that should air in a few weeks. I'll let y'all know. It was an incredible night and probably somewhat nostalgic for me. It was my final official performance as a member of Freedom Quartet. I have been holding off on posting anything until they were closer to hiring my replacement, and they are in that process now and will make an announcement in their timing. After much prayer and consideration, I have accepted the position as full time Minister of Music at Everett Hills Baptist in my home town of Maryville, TN. I have actually filled in for this church off and on when the group has had off weeks and such. I love these folks and when they approached me about the possibility of taking the position permanently, we felt it was truly an open door that the Lord would have us to walk through. We are extremely excited as we have already started ministry there!
I have really enjoyed my time with Freedom Quartet. The past 3 years have been some that I will cherish the rest of my life. I have literally traveled from one end of this country to the other and around the world with these guys- and it's been a blast. John Rulapaugh is, bar none, the best tenor on the road and a great friend. Burman Porter does not have a lick of sense (lol), but no one sings bass any better- and no one has a bigger heart. And Dale Shipley- what can you say- he is simply a legend, and one of the best guys you'll ever meet. All of that said- I sang with the best of the best, and I'm grateful to the Lord that I had that opportunity.
Now my heart turns back toward the local church music ministry. It has been a few years since I have officially served in this capacity. I will still do some solo dates (already have some booked), worship leading, and probably some fill in work for groups from time to time- so stay tuned! But most Sundays, you'll find me at Everett Hills Baptist- so come see me sometime. And if you live close by, and you need a church home- come check us out.
As these pics show, one of the biggest things that I'll miss on the road are dear friends that you meet along the way. I'm certain we'll cross paths from time to time- just not quite as often. Keep us in your prayers as we do our best to serve Jesus at Everett Hills! Keep supporting the Freedom Quartet boys- they're gonna be better than ever, and most importantly- press on for Jesus! Blessings! - Preston Garner
