Dale Shipley... Lead
Born in Ft. Worth, Texas. Started singing at an early age. Sang my first solo at age 6, and my first recording at age 12. My family sang mostly locally in the Texas area until I was 17 and had graduated from high school. We moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1968 and could almost sing every night at a church somewhere in the Tri-State area around Memphis.
In March of 1969 I was drafted into the Army and shortly ended up in Vietnam. Upon my discharge from the Army I married Rosanne Harber and started singing with my family The Song Masters. My wife and I traveled with them until late 1972, and moved to Texas. I then joined Bob Wills and the Inspirationals. My first week with them was in a revival in Lewisville,Texas. On Friday night that week I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. I had gone forward earlier in my childhood, but really did not turn it all over to Him. I sang with The Inspirationals until March of 1975 and we moved back to Tennessee. (I was inducted into the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame with this group a short time ago.)
I re-joined The Song Masters and sang there till 1978. We then moved from Milan to Memphis. I got off the “road” at this time and sang part-time with The United Sound and was a music director at Sherwood Baptist Church in Memphis. Sang with The United Sound until the mid 1980’s. In 1989 we moved our membership to Bellevue Baptist Church.
We soon found ourselves in the choir and began singing as a soloist there with the choir and orchestra which was broadcast worldwide on Love Worth Finding, Dr. Adrian Rogers TV ministry. I was also honored to sing “The Anchor Holds” at his memorial service which was also broadcast worldwide on TBN.
In March of 1990 I was contacted to come “try out” for a new Southern Gospel Quartet that was being formed by a Mississippi business man. There was much “to do” over the group in the Southern Gospel Industry as a whole. We had a few firsts in that had not been accomplished before such as our first radio single making #1 on The Singing News charts. “Somebody Touched the Lord” was also voted Song of the Year. We had numerous top 5 songs and were a top 5 group. I was voted in the top 10 lead singers 5 years in a row while with Perfect Heart.
Many people asked for a recording of some of the songs I’ve done over the past decade, so I’ve included some of them on a new CD that I’ve just released. I pray I can be a blessing to others in this new venture.
